Do You Remember When...

Updated: Jan 8, 2022

Skip ahead 10 years - Can you see yourself hanging out at a party and someone starts to tell the story about that time the world shut down. I'm hoping my story will be boring. We are writing that story now. This is how I want my story to go:

My knee jerk reaction was to hang onto my yoga community so I started giving classes online. I bought a month of Zoom and sent out notifications and it worked. Throughout the quarantine I gave and received support from my yoga community and it drew us closer together. After the virus had run its course and I was back in the studio, the community was different; it was deeper and more connected and we all felt the shift.

The same goes for my marriage. My husband and I cherished this time where we had to slow down. We limited the television, built a new routine, worked out together, read together, put on old 80's music and danced. We played the games I had saved for the grand kids and we worked side by side. I started and finished projects I never had time for and found some new projects. I organised the house and planted that garden I had been putting off.

The other stuff. The stuff we fear, I am not going to write that into my story. I can't control it so I'm not going to imagine it. I am, however going to get all "my papers together" because, I now have the time. I needed to do that anyway. For now I'm going to practice being in the moment. I wake up and do my yoga practice with the intention of connecting to the present. I make a list of things I could do today and I don't stress if I don't cross them off.

I sit on the swing meant for the grand kids and marvel at the sky, I take my vitamins and enjoy warm showers but most of all I revel in the luck that the man I met all those years ago, when we were just 18, is my partner, and after all these years we can sit in the same room and bring out the best in each other.

What will your story be?
